PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain cosmetics improved in dispersibility of powder and useful e.g. for basic cosmetics by including powder and a specific pentanediol. SOLUTION: The cosmetics comprise (A) powder (preferably titanium dioxide which may be doped with metal oxide) and (B) 1,2-pentanediol. The ingredient A preferably is processed by polyphosphoric acid and/or its salt and the objective cosmetics preferably are water-based preparations. For example, contents of the ingredients A and B preferably are about 0.1-30 wt.% and about 0.1-20 wt.%, respectively. The quantity processed of the ingredient B preferably is 0.1-10 wt.% based on the weight of the ingredient A. The metal oxide preferably is iron oxide, zirconium oxide, anhydrous silicic acid, etc. The objective cosmetics contain preferably e.g. hydrocarbon such as squalane and/or polyhydric alcohol such as glycerol as at least one of other optional ingredients.
