<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer having sufficient fastness in the case of using as a hot melt ink binder, excellent in water resistance, high speed printing property, etc., not depending on recording material and a hot melt ink using the polymer as a binder. SOLUTION: This polymer is obtained by polymerizing a compound having at least one bicyclic structure that has at least one unsaturated bond in the molecule, using a metathesis polymerization catalyst, and the polymer has number average molecular weight of 500-20,000 and has at least 3 cyclic structures expressed by the formula in the main chain.
