PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antibacterial coating scarcely having toxiciiy to the human body, capable of imparting antibacterial property to metal products, fiber products, etc., and suitable e.g. for controlling the propagation of microorganisms by including an antibacterial agent such asε-polylysine, a vehicle and a compatible solvent. SOLUTION: This antibacterial coating comprises (A) (preferably 0.001-50 wt.% based on the weight of the antibacterial coating material) antibacterial agent containingε-polylysine (or its salt) or their addition product, (B) (preferably 0.5-95 wt.% based on the weight of the antibacterial coating material) at least one kind of vehicle selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (co)polymer, an acetalated resin and a modified polymethacrylate and (C) (preferably 0.5-95 wt.% based on the weight of the antibacterial coating material) at least one kind of compatible solvent selected from the group consisting of a 1-8C lower alcohol (derivative) and a glycol (derivative) and moreover preferably (D) (preferably 0.0001-1.0 wt.% based on the weight of the antibacterial coating material) iodine and/or (preferably 0.0001-10 wt.% based on the weight of the antibacterial coating material) quaternary ammonium salt.
