PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover pressure (static pressure) before steam flows into a turbine stage, by forming a passage extending between the outlet side of a turbine moving blade of a turbine front stage and the inlet side of a turbine nozzle of a turbine next stage on an extended passage. SOLUTION: In an axial flow turbine, a passage FP extending between the outlet side of a turbine moving blade MB of a turbine front stage and the inlet side of a turbine nozzle SB of a turbine next stage is formed toward the downstream side of the flow of steam ST into an extended passage OFP. In this extended passage OFP, when the height of it is taken as h0, the height (h) of the turbine nozzle SB of the turbine next stage is set to (1.10-1.99) h0. Accordingly, when the sectional area in the outlet side opening section C-C of the turbine moving blade MB of the turbine front stage is taken as Ai, the flow velocity at the time is taken as Vi, the sectional area in the inlet side opening section D-D of the turbine nozzle SB of the turbine next stage is taken as A0, and the flow velocity at the time is taken as V0, the relational expression of Vi/V0=A0/Ai is established, and static pressure of the steam ST flowing in the extended passage OFP is recovered following the deceleration.
