PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deposition of char contained in the product gas in the inside of a communicating pipe connecting a coal gasification oven to a heat recovery boiler. SOLUTION: In a coal gasification apparatus comprising a gasification oven 1 for gasifying a finely pulverized carbonaceous material and a heat recovery boiler 2 whereinto a product gas is introduced through a communicating pipe 3, the deposition of char on the inner wall of the communicating pipe 3 is prevented by connecting the outlet pipe 7 of the gasification oven to the communicating pipe 3 at some angle with each other and by shifting the axial center of the outlet pipe 7 from the axial center of the communicating pipe 3 so that these axial centers do not coincide with each other.
