摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound comprising a specific optically active- amino-methyl butyric acid derivative useful as an optically active intermediate for synthesis of a medicine and an agrochemical. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I (X is an alkoxycarbonyl; R is H or a 1-6C alkyl; and (*) is an asymmetric carbon), for example an optically active N-methoxycarbonyl-4-amino 2-methyl butyric acid. The compound of formula I is obtained by acting a microorganism, its processed product or an enzyme which catalyze an asymmetric hydrolysis of the racemic esters of formula II. Ion exchanged water, etc. are used as a reaction media, and the preferable substrate concentration in the reaction liquid is 5-50 wt.%. The reaction is preferably carried out at 10-50 deg.C, in a reaction liquid of pH 6.0-8.0. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting hydrogen cyanide and methylmethacrylate to obtain methyl 3-cyanoisobutyric acid and then obtaining 3-cyanoisobutyric acid by alkaline hydrolysis, carrying out a catalytic reduction in the presence of a catalyst in solvent at middle pressure, protecting an amino group, and then esterifying.
