PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide entirely new agent for reducing frictional resistance which have overcome the defects of the conventional resistance reducing agents such as concentration deficiency due to adsorption to the inner surfaces of tubes in the case of using cationic surface active agents, easiness of being affected by pH and electrolytes in the case of using ampholytic surface active agents, and insufficiency of the drag reducing effect in the case of using nonionic surface active agents, and a method for reducing the frictional resistance of an aqueous medium by using the agent for reducing frictional resistance. SOLUTION: An agent for reducing frictional resistance for aqueous medium comprises (A) a component composed of a (poly)glyceryl ether or ester and (B) a component composed of an anionic surface active agent whose counter ion is an alkaline earth metallic ion. A method for reducing the frictional resistance of an aqueous medium comprises adding the frictional resistance-reducing agent to the aqueous medium in reducing the frictional resistance of a turbulent flow aqueous medium.
