PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent adhesion of chips to the slide surface of the table of a machine tool. SOLUTION: A slide surface projecting device C to prevent adhesion of chips to the slide surface 20 of a lower table 16R to longitudinally slidably support an upper table 21R comprises a first cover member 42 longitudinally and oscillatorily, and pivotally supported at the front end of the upper table 21R through a first support shaft 45, a second cover member 43 longitudinally oscillatorily and pivotally supported at the front end of the first cover member 42 through a second support shaft 47, a guide member 41 fixed on the frond end face of the lower table 16R connected to a slide surface 20, and a third cover 44 provided at a front end with a weight 51 and having a rear end fixed at the front end of the upper table 21R, an intermediate part formed of a flexible sheet to cover a first cover member 42, a second cover member 43, and a guide member 41. The first cover member 42 is energized rearward downward around the first support shaft 45 through the force of a first spring 46 and the second cover member 43 is energized rearward downward around the second support shaft 47 through the force of a second spring 48.
