PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide damping equipment to smoothly control a steel sheet so as to prevent it from oscillating due to changes in sheet thickness and width or meandering of the running steel sheet. SOLUTION: This steel sheet damping equipment comprises electromagnet pairs 2-6 to apply magnetic force in the direction to cross a steel sheet, sensor pairs 7-11 to detect the distance between the electromagnet pairs 2-6 and the steel sheet 1, and a controller 14 to control the driving current of the electromagnet pairs 2-6 to damp the running steel sheet 1. In this case, on the basis of such line conditions as sheet thickness, speed, joint, sheet width and tension, a control gain for controlling the driving current of the electromagnet pairs 2-6 is decided.
