PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of a coating trouble due to inclusion of air between a coating liquid layer and the web surface in a coating apparatus comprising a coating liquid nozzle for applying the coating liquid to the surface of a moving web. SOLUTION: This coating apparatus comprises a coating liquid nozzle 3 for applying a coating liquid to the surface of a moving web and an ejector 9 installed to shut off the air accompanying the web by blowing air to the surface of the web in the upstream side of the coating liquid nozzle 3 in the opposed direction to the moving direction of the web 2. Further, a steam nozzle 10 is installed between the ejector 9 and the coating liquid nozzle 3 to replace air in the vicinity of the liquid contact part of the coating liquid 4 to the web 2 with steam by jetting the steam. A heat insulating means such as a heat insulating layer or a heat insulating member is installed in a wall face of the coating liquid nozzle 3.
