The mosaic panel consists of a supporting surface (1) with a main zone (ZP), bounded by a wide frame (2), in which a main design is depicted in ceramic e.g. porcelain tiles fixed in place with adhesive. It also has an additional foreground zone (ZA) for an auxiliary design which overlaps both the main design and the frame. The additional design consists of an inner portion (ZI) which fits into a reserved area in the main design, and outer portions (ZE1 - ZE4) which are let into the frame. The frame is made from a panel of sufficient thickness to allow recesses to be made in it to receive the main and auxiliary designs. In addition, the auxiliary design can be made from transparent tiles, e.g. of glass, to guide light linking the frame and main design.
