PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system, which is capable of accurately transmitting a large amount of high density data restraining the influence of a transmission loss of optical signals in an optical transmission line, even in an operation environment such as a vehicle where temperatures vary arbitrarily within a prescribed range and a light source which is suitable for such a communication system. SOLUTION: By taking the transmission loss characteristics of optical fibers 7, which are used for the transmission of optical data from an optical transmitting module 3 to an optical receiving module 5 into consideration, a blue light LED 35 which emits light of wavelengths 634.4 nm to 654.1 nm and whose emission light does not vary in its center wavelengths is used as the emission light source of the optical transmission module 3, by which the variation in the transmission loss of the optical fiber 7 is within a range of 12 dB/km (±6 dB/km) at its maximum in an operating temperature range of from -40 deg.C to +85 deg.C, in vehicle where an optical communication system 1 is mounted. |
