PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode a signal containing source and/or channel encoding by considering a source signal and sensitivity for associating a quantized parameter value with a transmitted bit code. SOLUTION: Encoding is executed in a quantizer 7 and a subsequent encoder 8 and the encoder 8 executes signal matching encoding. The quantizer 7 and the encoder 8 form, e.g. a sound and/or picture encoder. The quantizer 7 quantizes the continuous value parameters of an amplification rate, an exciting vector and a filter coefficient. When a signal S is encoded by an M bit, an error is protected by using all remaining redundant parts of M-log2Q bit. Q is a quantization level. In an error protection method, optimized parameter quantization is combined with redundant non-linear block encoding. The optimum quantizer 7 is used in a source using a non-linear source encoding bit rate. |
