PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically switch a display method and an operating method corresponding to characters which are switched in such a case by providing a control means which changes and sets display speed and display color of the displayed characters, allocation of key input or the like, according to a size of a selected font. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display 5 has a large area (dot quantity) enough to display large characters. With the key input from an operation key 2, the size of characters to be displayed is selected and switched. A CPU 1 selects the display characters of the desirable size from a font ROM 3. When the selected size is large, a liquid crystal control part 4 changes the display speed or display color of the characters or the like displayed on the liquid crystal display 5 or the allocation of the key input by an instruction of the CPU 1. For the purpose, a table containing combinations of the display speeds, display colors, and allocation of key input is previously stored in a memory 6 and the change is made according to the instruction of the CPU 1.
