PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the motor-car ratio of an electric rolling stock driving system, without being accompanied by the difficulty of the mass increase/ equipment of an overall train make-up by reducing the size and weight of a VVVF(variable voltage variable frequency) inverter which largely affects the performance of rolling stocks. SOLUTION: In an electric rolling stock driving system, which drives a train made-up of at least three electric rolling stocks which are driven with direct currents, main motors 5 are respectively put aboard a plurality of rolling stocks of the train composed at least of three stocks. At each prescribed number of main motors 5, a VVVF inverter 4 which drives and controls the motors 5 is connected and a power converter 3 which is constituted, in such a way that the input and output of the converter 3 are insulated from each other and functions to drop the voltage of a DC power source to the DC voltage for the inverter 4 and to boost the DC voltage for the inverter 4 to the voltage of the DC power source is provided. The system supplies the DC voltage converted from the DC power source voltage by means of the converter 3 to the inverters 4 as a common input. |
