PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high speed and high contrast display. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display element equipped with a liquid crystal element comprising a liquid crystal held between a pair of substrates on which electrodes are formed, a driving voltage applying means to apply voltage to the liquid crystal and at least a polarizer, a liquid crystal of which the aligned state continuously changes corresponding to the voltage applied by the driving voltage applying means is used. Besides the plane of polarization of the polarizer is arranged by shifting from the direction in which the transmitted light quantity with no voltage application to the liquid crystal shows either a maximum or a minimum value. |
