PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color selecting electrode capable of reducing the frictional resistance between a damper wire and a metal strip and suppressing a color shift on the screen. SOLUTION: A color selecting electrode includes a damper wire 6 furnished at the surface with a plurality of grooves stretching in the longitudinal direction of the wire 6, wherein the crest of each groove ridge is crushed into approx. a trapezoidal shape. The groove depth where the crest is crushed should be below 0.1μm. The damper wire 6 is formed from a drawing work of tungsten, etc., using a die of diamond heated to several hundreds of degrees in deg.C, when the work is heated to 500-600 deg.C, whereto a lubricant is applied, and drawn off vigorously more tan in a conventional drawoff process for a damper wire 106.
