PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matte optical film and matte high-transmittance film capable of preventing degradation of display quality (such as generation of display irregularity or luminance irregularity) without causing reduction of a display luminance, and to provide a liquid crystal display device and a matte polarizing plate using the film. SOLUTION: This optical film used on the backlight side of a liquid crystal cell in a liquid crystal display device has a hardcoat layer 2 on a transparent support body 1. The hardcoat layer 2 includes a crosslinked binder polymer and transparent fine particles 4, while having a surface roughness Ra of 0. 1-0. 3μm and Rz of 1-3μm.
