PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make connectable host computers which have different input/output protocols without increasing physical ports for an external storage subsystem. SOLUTION: In this magnetic disk subsystem 111, host computers A (101) and host computer B (102) are connected to the common input/output port 121a of a host I/F control circuit 121 through a hub 103, FIBRE channel interfaces 104 and 105, and an FIBRE channel interface 106. In this case, a processor A (122) mounted on a channel control adapter 112 decides protocol identifiers included in frames received from the host computers A (101) and B (102) through the host I/F control circuit 121 to input and output data under multiple protocol control characteristic of the host computers A (101) and B (102).
