PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve color reproducibility when it is bright and to improve sensitivity in picking up an image when it is dark, by providing a photoelectric conversion means for converting an optical image formed by a lens to an electric signal and a video signal processing means, etc., for generating a prescribed video signal from a signal outputted from the photoelectric conversion means. SOLUTION: A signal processing circuit 15 inputs the output signal of an image pickup element 13 being a photoelectric conversion means after A/D conversion and generates a luminance signal and a chrominance signal to output from an output terminal 19. On the other hand, a control circuit 18 outputs a prescribed controlled variable to a motor driving circuit 17 so that the average level of the luminance outputted by a signal processing circuit 15 is a nearly prescribed target level. The circuit 17 drives a motor 16 in accordance with the output and the motor 16 sets a diaphragm 11 to be a prescribed stop value. Then, since an infrared cut filter 12 is automatically turned on/off in accordance with the iris value, color reproducibility is improved when it is light and sensitivity in picking up of an image is improved when it is dark.
