PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the rotational position of a dial, without a visual observation and without impairing the sense of operation in a dial type switch. SOLUTION: A spherically formed pole-like member whose both ends are slightly larger than an outer diameter of the other part is used as a detent member 50. The detent member 52 is inclined slightly in a cylindrical member 50 by means of sliding resistance caused by a rib 44, when a dial 30 is rotated. The angle of a contact surface of the detent member 52 is changed, when the detent member 52 is engaged with a groove 46 of the rib 44 to thereby greatly the sliding resistance. The detent member 52 is generated, as it is called, an oscillating action in the cylindrical member 50 by the energizing force from a spring 54, and hits the inner wall of the cylindrical member 50 so as to generate hitting sound namely detent sound. An operator can graspe a position of the dial 30 without a visual observation by way of the detent sound and the hitting.
