PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the precision and the speed of a searching by searching for three equalization control values, in which the values are made continuous and the characteristic values with respect to both sides of the equalization control values are made larger than the characteristic value of a central equalization control value, and computing an optimum equalization control value. SOLUTION: The equalization characteristic of an equalization circuit 3 is controlled by an equalization control value X transmitted to the circuit 3 from an optimum equalization controlling device 5 and the gain of the prescribed frequency, that is beforehand set, or the frequency is controlled by the value X. The equalization signals obtained by the circuit 3 are transmitted to a demodulation circuit 4 and the circuit 4 outputs a characteristic value Y=f(X), that represents the degree of degradation in the signal quality, to the device 5. The device 5 successively provides a new value X to the circuit 3 based on the value Y corresponding to the value X given to the circuit 3 and searches for a value X which makes the value Y a minimum.
