PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an observation optical system by which the external world or the like is viewed in the same way as the case that it is viewed with naked eyes in a see-through state through an ocular optical system of a prism optical system forming a displayed picture. SOLUTION: This system is equipped with a picture displayed element 3, the ocular optical system 10 guiding the displayed picture to an observer's eyeball, and a see-through optical device 20 arranged on an external world image side further than the optical system 10 so that the external world image different from the displayed picture may be guided to the observer's eyeball. The optical system 10 has a curved surface shape reflection surface 12 reflecting luminous flux from the displayed picture to an observer side, and the reflection surface 12 has action to transmit the luminous flux from the external world image transmitted through the device 20, and the device 20 is arranged in tight- contact with the surface 12. When the luminous flux from the external world picture is transmitted through the device 20 and the system 10, synthesized optical power P is about 0 or angular magnificationβis about 1.
