PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wind a deflecting coil stably on a rectangular core without requiring any additional component. SOLUTION: A core 19 for deflection yoke has such a cylindrical structure that one side in the center axis Z direction is opened in approx. rectangular shape, and a plurality of winding guide grooves 23 and 24 approx. in sawteeth form are provided on the longer edge side and shorter edge side of the core opening 21 approx. in rectangular shape. These grooves 23 and 24 are formed from two surfaces such as tapered faces 23A and 24A and guide faces 23B and 24B. The tapered faces 23A and 24A of the guide grooves 23 and 24 are formed oppositely in the up-slope condition toward the Y-axis and X-axis on the longer edge side and the shorter edge side where the corner part of the core opening 21 serves as boundary. A deflecting coil is wound in troidal form on the core 19 in such a condition that coil wires are engaged with the guide grooves 23 and 24.
