PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a color phase while taking characteristics and variance of a display element into account and to obtain superior reproducibility of colors by detecting chromaticity points and luminance of arbitrary colors and adjusting color signal saturation, a color signal phase, and a color difference signal level. SOLUTION: A color phase adjusting means 1 inputs a video signal and controls the saturation, demodulation angle, demodulation gain, and tint of a color signal. A detecting means 3 detects the chromaticity point on a light emission surface of a display element 2. A control means 4 sends correction data out to the color phase adjusting means 1 so that the chromaticity point detected by the detecting means 3 is put closer to the target chromaticity point. For example, the control means 4 generates the difference data so that the chromaticity point detected by the detecting means 3 is put closer to the chromaticity point of the arbitrary color and sends them out as the correction data to the color phase adjusting means 1 to adjust the saturation, demodulation angle, demodulation gain, and tint of the color signal, thereby actualizing the color phase of the arbitrary color.
