PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a picture having a really wide dynamic range by increasing a ratio of a maximum value to a minimum value of a brightness value displayable within a same screen, by including a sub-field of which the brightness weight is made smaller than a half of a brightness weight of a sub-field having the next largest brightness weight. SOLUTION: A sub-field conversion part 81 receives the supply of a picture signal from a selection circuit, and converts a picture signal corresponding to each pixel into field information having a predetermined prescribed weighting. To expand a dynamic range, when the combinations of all selectable brightness values are rearranged in order of brightness value, a sub-field control circuit 8 is able to generate a jumping part of the brightness values, and this makes it possible to increase a ratio of a minimum brightness value to an expressible maximum brightness value. To make a brightness value jump, a brightness weight is to be set so that a prescribed brightness weight is smaller than a half of the brightness weight of a sub-field having the next largest brightness weight. |
