PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable transmission by a multi-frame by unit of an optional frame without increasing circuits by detecting a multi-frame number from a specified position of a payload of a time division multiplex frame to constitute the multi- frame and recognizing the optional number of multi-frames when the multi- frames are received. SOLUTION: When the multi-frames constituted of an STM-1 frame are received by each node, the frames are synchronized by an STM-1 frame synchronization detecting part 10. And SOH of the STM-1 frame is analyzed at an STM-1 terminal part 11, a relative position in the frame is identified and information to indicate the leading position of a multiplexed signal, namely, the leading position of the payload is extracted. The multi-frame number multiplexed on a multi-frame number part of leading 9 bytes of the payload is extracted based on the information to indicate the leading position of the payload by a multi-frame synchronization detecting part 12.
