PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the action of a translational exciting force applied to a pivot part, to suppress mechanical structure vibration incident to the rotary behavior of a head carriage, and to allow a device to be miniaturized. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk device is equipped with a magnetic head for recording/reproducing information on a magnetic disk, a head carriage 3 on which the magnetic head is mounted and that, scans the magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disk, a pivot part 5 that supports the head carriage 3 rotatably on a plane parallel to the magnetic disk surface, a head carriage driving part for driving the head carriage 3, and a base for supporting the pivot part 5; the head carriage driving part is equipped with two coils 6 arranged circumferentially oppositely on the head carriage, two coil cores 7 on which the two coils 6 are each wound, and two magnets 8 that are disposed circumferentially oppositely on the base and that are arranged perpendicularly to the surface direction of the magnetic disk opposite to the two coils 6 while a prescribed space is kept from the top end of the two coil cores 7; and the two coils 6 are wound in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the magnetic disk.
