PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool a compressor during operating and to exhaust a leaked refrigerant by providing one or more openings at a rib provided at a bottom plate in which a compressor, a heat exchanger, a blower and the like are disposed to communicate with an atmosphere under an outdoor unit, and an opening provided at an upper part of a partition plate to communicate with a space of the blower side. SOLUTION: The outdoor unit for an air conditioner comprises a compressor 3 having a plurality of legs 4, a heat exchanger 20, a blower 14 and the like disposed on a bottom plate 5, and a plurality of protruded ribs 15 corresponding to positions of the legs 4 of the compressor 3 and provided on the plate 5. The each rib 15 has an opening 25 for communicating with a compressor chamber 30 through a lower atmosphere of the plate 5. A periphery of the compressor 3 is surrounded by a side plate 17 stood on the plate 5, a partition plate 16 for partitioning the compressor 30 similarly stood on the plate 5 and a blower chamber 31, and a top plate 1 covering the other end of the plate 16. An opening 26 through which the chamber 30 communicates with the chamber 31 is provided at an upper part of the plate 16.
