PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the safety of a traveling vehicle and to acquire road width data by performing image processing while picking up the image of the front from the vehicle under traveling. SOLUTION: An image signal from a CCD camera 19 for picking up the image of the front of the vehicle is inputted to an image processing part 18 provided in the navigation system, converted into a digital image signal by an A/D converter 2l and turned into frame image data having a prescribed frame cycle. Two pieces of continuous frame image data are respectively stored in a first image memory 22 and a second image memory 23. A moving vector detecting part 24 detects moving vectors in the respective areas of the image on the basis of these frame image data and car speed data and a moving vector processing part 25 evaluates the pattern of the moving vector on a reference horizontal line and finds a distance and road width up to the wall surface of a road end. Thus, the safety and convenience of the vehicle can be improved in simple configuration by issuing an alarm to a driver in the case of approach to the road end, performing change guidance by discriminating a traveling lane, storing road width data and effectively utilizing them later or the like. |
