PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply real time volume rendering to a personal computer or the like, as well by storing mini blocks for which a volume data block is divided, at continuous positions in a memory part related to a coupling block. SOLUTION: A large data set 10 is divided into sections 200... and each of these sections has a plane 202 which is so small as to be settled in a volume memory and so small as to be expressed inside an internal storage device. Then, each of sections 200... is divided into small 'mini blocks' in the size of 2×2×2 boxels and the boxels are stored. The respective mini blocks are stored at the continuous storage places of the volume memory so as to be extracted in a burst mode in order to process the boxels. Thus, at the time of processing a boxel near a boundary 204 between one section and the previously processed section, only the mini blocks can be read while avoiding reading the entire block. |
