A noise signal (Vs), representative of the texture of the paper band in movement, is processed. An abnormal variation of the amplitude of the noise signal is detected (26,27) and a control signal (28) is produced in response to the detection of the abnormality. The paper texture is analyzed at the dryer (18) input so as to detect any paper rupture in the dryer. The noise signal is processed by directing a laser beam (30) onto the moving paper band and capturing the light transmitted from the paper band using an opto-electric sensor. The abnormal amplitude variation of the noise signal (Vs) is a momentary reduction in the signals amplitude. Independent Claims are included for a detector and printing press using the device. |
