PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of laminates while maintaining or improving the performance of an electroluminescence(EL) element and reduce manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: Cathodes 106, 107, a luminous layer 108, an anode 109 and a passivation film 110 are formed on picture element electrodes 104, 105. Then, halogen elements are added near an interface between the luminous layer 108 and the anode 109 through the passivation film 110 and the anode 109. A positive hole transportation region 111 functioning as a positive hole transportation layer is thus formed to enhance light emitting efficiency.
