PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve joining performance of substrates by providing a strip-like display electrode and an address electrode inside a back glass substrate, a dielectric layer on the inside surface of a front glass substrate and the back glass substrate and a barrier rib and a phosphor on the dielectric layer, and forming a frit glass layer between the upper surface of the barrier rib and the corresponding front glass substrate. SOLUTION: A frit glass layer 31, formed by applying frit glass, is provided on an upper surface of a barrier rib 27 to be jointed to an inside surface of a front glass substrate 21 through fusion. The barrier rib 27 has action of supporting the front glass substrate 21, and the frit glass layer 31 applied to an upper part of the barrier rib 27 is jointed to the front glass substrate 21 through fusion. Jointing on the upper surface of the barrier rib 27 improves jointing strength by being performed in parallel with jointing of the frit glass performed in an end part of the substrates 21, 22. The frit glass layer 31 is applied by a printing method to enlarge an image screen.
