PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an inverter type electric rolling stock suitable for the protection of overhead lines from overcurrents, when short circuits occur among the phases of an inverter by improving the performance of the regenerative brake of the stock at high-speed time, even when the voltages of the overhead lines are low. SOLUTION: An electric rolling stock is provided with a pantograph 1, which receives power supply from an overhead line, a line breaker 2, and a high-speed circuit breaker 3. The stock is also provided with a semiconductor switch 5, which is connected in parallel with a resistor 4, a filter device composed of a reactor 6 and a capacitor 7, and an inverter device 8. In addition, the stock is also provided with a motor 9 and a means (an allowable maximum voltage setter 11 for inverter, a low-level priority circuit 12, a high-level priority circuit 13, comparators 14 and 15, a semiconductor switch controller 51, and a motor voltage detector 92), which controls the turning-on/off of the semiconductor switch 5 so that the terminal voltage of the resistor 4 becomes a different voltage between the voltages of the motor 9 and overhead line when the regenerative brake of the stock is applied.
