PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit a data signal at a high transmission rate and to reduce the processing time of the signal in a distribution line carrier system that conducts communication by utilizing distribution lines. SOLUTION: A transmitter terminal uses a plurality of carrier frequencies to apply PSK modulation to a data signal, a frequency multiplexer circuit 17 applies frequency multiplexing to the modulated signal, and transmits the multiplexed signal. A fast Fourier transform processing circuit 3, carrier detection circuits 4-7, and a frequency selection circuit 8 of a receiver side terminal select a carrier frequency with a highest S/N from the received signal 1 and use the selected carrier frequency to demodulate a data signal 12 from the received signal 1.
