PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a substrate having excellent surface smoothness being employed in a magnetic disc having no undulation, polish flaw or micro irregularities and exhibiting excellent levitation of magnetic head, electromagnetic conversion characteristics, corrosion resistance, and the like. SOLUTION: A substrate 1 is subjected to electrolysis on one surface in the circumferential direction by supplying electrolyte 2 onto the surface of the substrate 1 while turning and conducting the electrolyte 2 flowing into the gap between a cathode material 3 and the anodic oxidation substrate 1. Subsequently, the substrate 1 is subjected, on the opposite surface thereof in the circumferential direction, with frictional cleaning using a cleaning material 5 pressed onto the surface of the substrate 1.
