The invention relates to a fire detection device (28) which comprises at least one optical waveguide made of a plastic material (6) and used as a thermosensitive element placed in the immediate vicinity of a cable to be protected, a laser diode, a detector for measuring the intensity of radiation which is transmitted from the laser diode to the detector by means of the optical waveguide (6), and an operating unit. Said operating unit generates a warning signal each time the temperature rises in the vicinity of the cable due to a fire, each time the loss in the optical waveguide (6) increases and each time the intensity measured in the detector drops below a threshold level. |
