N-(Benzylsulfonyl)picolinamide derivatives of general formula (I) having excellent herbicidal effects; a process for the preparation of the derivatives; and herbicides containing the same as the active ingredient: wherein X is halogeno, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 haloalkoxy, (C1-C4 alkoxy)carbonyl, or the like; n is an integer of 0 to 5; Y is halogeno, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, or the like; and m is an integer of 0 to 4.
