Table format data can be properly inserted, deleted, and updated at high speed. A CPU (12) receives a record number as a suffix, generates a suffix conversion array for giving an offset value corresponding to the range of th e suffix, specifies the insertion position of an item value to be inserted, defines the range of the corresponding suffix with respect to the insertion position in the suffix conversion array, gives an offset value for specifyin g the end of the array, increments the range of the corresponding suffix with respect to an element having a number larger than the record number corresponding to the insertion position, gives an offset value for decrementing the suffix having been received, disposing the item value to be inserted at the end position, and gives an offset value to the suffix according to the range of the suffix in the suffix conversion array. Therefore, the item value is specified by using a suffix given an offset val ue.
