<p>This invention relates to a method for determining the level of a liquid in a container, whereby a beam of light is introduced from a light source into a fiber optic cable which is situated in a container or can be introduced into a container such that the beam of light or a part of the beam exits from the fiber optic cable via at least one suitably furnished incline providing the said incline is submerged. The beam of light should not however exit from the fiber optic cable when the incline is surrounded by a gas, in particular air. Measurements are made using a photodetector in the region of the point of entry of the beam of light into the fiber optic cable to determine whether a loss in intensity of the beam in the fiber optic cable has occurred.</p> |
