Operating switching system for data packets

When each data packet arrives a report is sent to the output and placed in the queue. The report contains a reference, priority information on the correct classification of the data packet and information on the packet length. The report is transferred over the same physical transfer path as the data packets but over a separate logic channel. A further report is sent back from the output to the input memory, as soon as the data packet can be sent from the output. Only then is the data packet transferred to its target. The additional report contains information about the data packet target. The reports are combined and transferred together over the transfer system.
