The invention relates to a method, a device and a system for biometrically authenticating a person. Due to the fact that the detection of biometric data never matches 100 %, an authentication thus only results when the detected data exceeds a defined threshold value when compared to the stored reference data. In order to increase the level of security, the invention provides that information concerning the individual features of the person which influence the biometric data is stored and is taken into account during the authentication process. For example, the threshold value during the comparison of a finger print is specified with a low value only if the person has unusually dry or damp skin. On the other hand, the sensor for detecting the biometric data of the finger print is adjusted in a more sensitive or less sensitive manner according to the stored information.
