The invention relates to a contact element which can be press-fitted into a hole on a printed circuit board. The contact element has a press-fit zone (1) which can be subdivided into a front and a rear deformable zone (5, 6) and an insertion zone (4). Both the front and rear deformable zones (5, 6) have an aperture (2). A strut (7) is formed between the apertures (2). This configuration optimises the rigidity of the press-fit zone (1) and the retaining force is improved by the use of a sheet metal with a reduced material thickness. During the press-fitting process, the front deformable area (5) also performs a calibration of the hole diameter.
