PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain nonmagnetic single-crystal ferrite which is optimum for a magnetic head substrate on which a metal magnetic thin film is stuck, which has proper thermal expansion coefficient, superior workability without damaging the characteristics of the metal magnetic film, and is easy to have single crystal grown. SOLUTION: Composition of a ferrite indicated by mol% is surrounded by a composition having (A) (Fe2O3+TiO2):ZnO:NiO=(65-x):(35-y):(x+y), (B) (Fe2O3+TiO2):ZnO:NiO=61:33:6, (C) (Fe2O3+TiO2):ZnO:NiO=51:43:6, (D) (Fe2O3+ TiO2):ZnO:NiO=52:46:2, (E) (Fe2O3+TiO2):ZnO:NiO=(53-x):(47-y):(x+y), in a ternary system composition diagram for Fe2O3+TiO2, ZnO and NiO. The value of TiO2 conversion ratio of Fe2O3 is 3-20, where (x+y) is a positive value which excludes zero.
