METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PYRAMIDAL IMAGE CODING

The invention relates to method and device for pyramidal image coding aimed at transmission of photo and TV images. In correspondence with the method, based on image decomposition through inverse differential pyramid, the image is approximated with polynomial function whose coefficients are obtained with regression analysis, or with image, obtained after inverse orthogonal transform of the filtrated transform of the input image after retaining only few of its low-frequency coefficients. These coefficients represent the "zero" level (top) of the pyramid. The next pyramid level is obtained when its approximation defined with the coefficients from the "zero" level is substracted from the input image. The resulting difference image is divided in four subimages with same size and form and after processing in the similar way are obtained their approximating images, etc. The device for pyramidal image coding in accordance with the method, permits the recursive image decomposition without decimation and interpolation.
