摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medium density display device which can form a stable medium density image with continuous tone in a zero field state by using a transparent conductive layer formed to cover a transparent substrate and an electric response type optical modulation sheet. SOLUTION: The sheet 10 includes a substrate 30 which can be formed from a transparent polymer material made of polyester plastics and has 20 to 200μm thickness. A light-transmitting conductive layer 32 is formed to cover the substrate 30. An optical modulation layer 11 is formed on the transmitting conductive layer 32. The liquid crystal material in the optical modulation layer 11 is preferably a nematic liquid crystal doped with a chiral material known as a cholesteric liquid crystal diffused into a polymer binder. The transmitting conductive layer 32 acts as a continuous electrode for the optical modulation layer 11. An electric field is applied to a conductive region 42 and all over the region of the transmitting conductive layer 32 to give the effect on the all formulation in the optical modulation layer 11 so that selective reflection or transmission is realized all over the optical modulation layer 11.
