PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber capable of stably performing two-way optical communications by providing domains having a number of cores filled therein in two axially symmetric positions within a clad with a specified space. SOLUTION: The optical fiber 11 has a clad 11a having a circular section over the whole length. Circular sectional domains 11b having a number of cores 11c filled therein are provided in two axially symmetric positions in the clad 11a. Each core 11c filled in each domain 11b is, covered with the clad 11a and laid in an independent state. Accordingly, light is independently transmitted into each core 11c in each domain 11b. Each domain 11b is arranged with a space L of about 50-100μm which is sufficiently larger than the wavelength of the light transmitted in each core 11c.
