A storage stable meltable- and/or soluble and/or dispersible, solid at room temperature, modified cycloaliphatic epoxide resin with more than one epoxide group per average molecular weight, optionally of fluorine content 0.01-2 wt.%. A storage stable meltable- and/or soluble and/or dispersible, solid at room temperature modified cycloaliphatic epoxide resin with more than one epoxide group per average molecular weight, optionally of fluorine content 0.01-2 wt.% is prepared by reaction of acetaldehyde-free, liquid at room temperature cycloaliphatic polyepoxide compounds and cyclic hydroxycarboxylic acids and/or half-esters from dicarboxylic acids, their anhydrides and monohydric alcohols, glycolmonoalkyl ethers, polyglycolmonoalkyl ethers or fatty alcohols. The half-ester has at least one cyclic ring structure optionally containing minor amounts, relative to the fluorine-free carboxyl group containing compounds, of fluorine containing carboxylic acids or their anhydrides, dicarboxylic acid half esters of fluorine containing monohydric alcohols and dicarboxylic acids, their anhydrides, and/or perfluorocarboxylic acids of formula F-(CF2)n-COOH, where n = 5-21. The reaction is carried out at increased temperature in the presence of an organic solvent and/or catalysts for the epoxy/carboxy reaction, with 0.1-0.49 mole of carboxyl group containing compounds per epoxide group. The quantity of carboxyl group containing fluorine compounds is restricted to 0.1-2 wt.% relative to the end product, and is less than 0.1 mole carboxyl group containing fluorine compounds per epoxide group, in accordance with patent application 19901118.4. The resin contains 0.01-2 wt.% F and 0.01-15 wt.% Si, and can be obtained by partial replacement of the existing Si-free carboxyl group containing compounds by Si organic compounds containing at least one group reactive towards epoxide groups. An Independent claim is included for preparation of the resin as described above.
