The coolant entry (7) and outlet (8) are so arranged on the grate bar (3-5) sides that when adjoining bars are lined up, the outlet (8) of the bar (3,4) stands coaxial to the bar (4,5) inlet (7). A temperature-resistant seal (12) between bars directly adjoining the outlet (8) bridges the interval between adjacent bar channels (6). The seal is pressed onto the associated bar sealing faces by means of screws (9) in the bar block sides (2). Inlet (7) and/or outlet (8) contains a milled groove for the seal which is held sealably in place by a tongue-and-groove join. Preferably inlet and outlet are arranged coaxially on any one grate bar and holes for the screw join (9) run right through at inlet and outlet and are diametricaly opposed and accessed via recesses (16) in the respective bar surface.
